<br />
THIS.<br />
<br />
I miss writing about the latest happenings in my life, blogging about my recent thrifted treasures, and sharing pictures of my <strike>drinks</strike> meals. Of course, I'm still all over social media, but it's not the same as having a page that's all my own. I even miss the pain-in-the-ass design part of it.<br />
<br />
So, we'll see what happens. I might just be feeling nostalgic. Or just have a wild hair, like my mom says.Natalie Garzahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303778693462301530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6563039704167551428.post-14272221738232248282013-01-29T10:51:00.001-08:002013-01-29T12:23:05.027-08:00Thrifted: Classic Slingbacks<span id="goog_622039125"></span><span id="goog_622039126"></span><span id="goog_622039093"></span><span id="goog_622039094"></span>I've been on a thrifting high lately. I try to go at least once a week, but I don't always have the time. If I can make it, I try to stop by the Salvation Army on my way home from work on Wednesdays when all clothing is 50% off and shoes are 25% off. I scored two pairs of amazing shoes last week: a pair of real <a href="http://instagram.com/p/U2FVoPAnGY/" target="_blank">Swedish Hasbeens</a> and these great black patent slingback pumps.<br />

While I'm wearing them, I like to pretend that they're really the Manolo Blahniks below. Wishful thinking, I know. But a girl can dream, right?<br />

The downside to these shoes is that one of the heels rattles a little bit (weird, I know), but I only spent about $10 for them. Currently, I'm in the phase where I'm obsessed with painting them a different color every week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOk1e3rIGUKtj6f5-V46GhyUscS0VyVUGfHC_dIJ7zZhM2M_PW_SNOcF0bw4ZhAZmthT8pcLsyI5udGCb908T8NrJVNNJr5Qu-U5YhOy2CpCaOL75Jm4gM6Cr4ehKp_z6sDJ1UZXF4Hxk/s1600/nail+polish.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOk1e3rIGUKtj6f5-V46GhyUscS0VyVUGfHC_dIJ7zZhM2M_PW_SNOcF0bw4ZhAZmthT8pcLsyI5udGCb908T8NrJVNNJr5Qu-U5YhOy2CpCaOL75Jm4gM6Cr4ehKp_z6sDJ1UZXF4Hxk/s1600/nail+polish.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
I've had this bottle of navy nail polish for years. I think I bought it back when I was a sophomore in college, which makes it...four years old. Who knew nail polish lasted that long?<br />
<br />
My point is that I read <a href="http://joannagoddard.blogspot.com/2012/10/fall-trend-navy-nails.html" target="_blank">this post</a> on one of my favorite blogs, <a href="http://joannagoddard.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">A Cup of Jo</a>, way back in October and I remember thinking that I needed to try it especially because I already have a bottle of navy polish.<br />

<br />
Of course, I forgot about it until I was rummaging through my overstuffed bag of nail polish and found this particular bottle. It was definitely a AHA! moment. I'm sure you can guess what happened next.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I painted my nails navy blue, of course. <br />
I have a love-hate relationship with these tights. They're really cute and I received so many compliments while I was wearing them BUT they cost $25 and ripped the first time I pulled them on. There's a huge run down the inside of one of the legs! Fortunately, the run ends above my knee, so I can still wear them with longer skirts and dresses. I put a ton of clear nail polish on the run to keep it from getting any bigger, but I'll have to be really careful the next time I wear them.<br />
<br />
Here's the reason I decided to buy these tights...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ6c_wQjN-BIfdSSZ2paqzli0tEKCw_fddTEDjQiqabcaH697Y0ASt2n55mEUt3CHVofmgCqR2Z-3bfSFpUsQOx-Vz5TMVyySaLjFhj5hpT9jwYlKJ7gOE98FvH9s-hFRZdEfjrKFPMsM/s1600/polka2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ6c_wQjN-BIfdSSZ2paqzli0tEKCw_fddTEDjQiqabcaH697Y0ASt2n55mEUt3CHVofmgCqR2Z-3bfSFpUsQOx-Vz5TMVyySaLjFhj5hpT9jwYlKJ7gOE98FvH9s-hFRZdEfjrKFPMsM/s1600/polka2.jpg" /></a></div>

I made two batches of this chicken salad AND a whole tray of enchiladas verdes AND a giant pot of Italian soup (both of which I didn't take pictures of...sorry!) I'm seriously considering buying a turkey on a monthly basis. There's so much meat to use and you can freeze it for later! <br />
<br />
OK, back to the salad.<br />
<br />
Here's what you'll need:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSQ2Hl0xdn68DWvZQUF2jwj8ox3L4bFePlj7YRkx7B0SeYuerzzfXh9uolpHIdUmc25zcx5UYnYDdro7Xq_yo82_BVtuR7q0CkQI8xY6jyZd70s3egNht0qmwBZ3bEsB1aivMQkjff2Ls/s1600/IMG_6328.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSQ2Hl0xdn68DWvZQUF2jwj8ox3L4bFePlj7YRkx7B0SeYuerzzfXh9uolpHIdUmc25zcx5UYnYDdro7Xq_yo82_BVtuR7q0CkQI8xY6jyZd70s3egNht0qmwBZ3bEsB1aivMQkjff2Ls/s1600/IMG_6328.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTwMYJ-dPJIKrBEmY7xMP6PI1C1TvyvR_OTzkWXAvIhahH0iDOsLnI5GTQBilXtMGYPivms-JRkUOfBXGrnxSoGj8vwgaiiYbuRoHlxz_vJ6DJUFtsSkHVxUXEsUyE6Uw4ZWroohJPbhw/s1600/IMG_6325.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTwMYJ-dPJIKrBEmY7xMP6PI1C1TvyvR_OTzkWXAvIhahH0iDOsLnI5GTQBilXtMGYPivms-JRkUOfBXGrnxSoGj8vwgaiiYbuRoHlxz_vJ6DJUFtsSkHVxUXEsUyE6Uw4ZWroohJPbhw/s1600/IMG_6325.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm the worst at measuring ingredients. I usually just start with a little of each (keeping in mind the strength of certain ingredients) and taste before adding more of anything.<br />
<br />
For those of you who like to follow recipes to a tee, here are my recommended measurements based off a <a href="http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/curry_turkey_salad/" target="_blank">recipe</a> from one of my <a href="http://www.simplyrecipes.com/" target="_blank">favorite food blogs</a>.<br />
<br />
1 small diced apple<br />
1 chopped celery stick<br />
2 tbsp. chopped chives<br />
2 tbsp. chopped cilantro<br />
1/4 tsp. minced fresh ginger*<br />
1 tbsp. honey<br />
1/2 cup non-fat Greek yogurt<br />
1/2 tbsp. curry powder<br />
2 cups cooked & chopped turkey<br />
1/4 cup chopped pecans<br />
salt and pepper, to taste<br />
<br />
*I keep a hunk of ginger in my freezer. It thaws quickly and I like it better than ground ginger.<br />
<br />
The only step is to mix everything together in a bowl. It's easiest to first mix the wet ingredients (yogurt and honey) and then add everything else. It tastes great on toasted bread, in a wrap, or even on a salad. I probably should have taken a picture of the final result, but Matt and I ate it all before I remembered.<br />
<br />
It was that good.Natalie Garzahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303778693462301530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6563039704167551428.post-39300849505508185372013-01-02T09:04:00.000-08:002013-01-02T09:04:42.610-08:00Leopard + Red<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0XJCislttfFPjtFUXQy09Gz61SMm7FqglJb251CmuOP9T73QC7q1SEtNpQiA3CAt_YnXpTp87bvJZ5IdOGAecYv7Ao0t-5hkLvQa8X7XJ86rjjEbxuhp0ZPCcAgYP4EjpR2ijmwxcOpM/s1600/mushrooms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0XJCislttfFPjtFUXQy09Gz61SMm7FqglJb251CmuOP9T73QC7q1SEtNpQiA3CAt_YnXpTp87bvJZ5IdOGAecYv7Ao0t-5hkLvQa8X7XJ86rjjEbxuhp0ZPCcAgYP4EjpR2ijmwxcOpM/s1600/mushrooms.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This snack was based off was a simple idea. I had some leftover stuffing, so I knew I had to try <a href="http://www.simplyrealmoms.com/posts/five-things-to-do-with-leftover-stuffing/" target="_blank">this recipe</a>. I made my stuffing with italian sausage and celery, but it was difficult to stuff into the little 'shroom holes. Next time, I definitely need to cut the celery into smaller pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjofHZ3z9pzf4nlePkHCzrCTmGwttAVeXzDwUam-1WP9-x-HShypWC0iAKYk2Nluf1KCp4Mh6oZIl1HRK9fhPtrXJGq16DOLVpTiiXR6B6mf9LeS7N_-HZvbpvuKLsdc9ksjuGfQ6gvg_8/s1600/mushrooms2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjofHZ3z9pzf4nlePkHCzrCTmGwttAVeXzDwUam-1WP9-x-HShypWC0iAKYk2Nluf1KCp4Mh6oZIl1HRK9fhPtrXJGq16DOLVpTiiXR6B6mf9LeS7N_-HZvbpvuKLsdc9ksjuGfQ6gvg_8/s1600/mushrooms2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The mushrooms were stuffed, topped with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese, and baked for about 15 minutes at 350°. Super easy and super delicious.Natalie Garzahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303778693462301530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6563039704167551428.post-22784076151613706762012-12-30T16:00:00.000-08:002012-12-30T16:52:10.513-08:00Found: Tall Brown Boots <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
I saw <a href="http://www.keikolynn.com/2012/11/happy-thanksgiving.html" target="_blank">these boots</a> on <a href="http://www.keikolynn.com/" target="_blank">Keiko Lynn</a> a few weeks ago. Aren't they awesome? I knew I liked them, but didn't think anything beyond that because they cost $650. I must have subconsciously been searching for something similar because I found these this week. Yay!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0yU3GRm9EIK4RCVWaC3P5zc1nZU-XYpeOX8a5g6DX7SZwwO30PLMJKvOmZooz61UIPTn_W_8ya7abomfcd4flbY6wRN6j8XufY3faCpld0BQgICUYfJpz9qH2tWK_h3fbSIObUkNnb4U/s1600/boots.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0yU3GRm9EIK4RCVWaC3P5zc1nZU-XYpeOX8a5g6DX7SZwwO30PLMJKvOmZooz61UIPTn_W_8ya7abomfcd4flbY6wRN6j8XufY3faCpld0BQgICUYfJpz9qH2tWK_h3fbSIObUkNnb4U/s1600/boots.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
These are my version of <a href="http://www.albertofermaniusa.com/Lissandra-Boots-Nero" target="_blank">Keiko Lynn's boots</a>. A little slouchier and not as tall, but still amazing. I love the mix of <strike>fake </strike>leather and suede, but the best part is that I found them at Goodwill for $35. That's a little more than I'll usually spend on secondhand shoes, but they were in great condition and fit so well. I've worn them everyday since I bought them, which is a good sign, if I do say so myself. I'll be sure to post an outfit wearing them soon.Natalie Garzahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09303778693462301530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6563039704167551428.post-7648790479830390582012-12-28T14:36:00.000-08:002012-12-30T16:52:19.511-08:00Leftover Mashed Potatoes -> Potato SoupI can't believe my little Christmas break is almost over. I've spent the week reading, watching Netflix, browsing the internet, and thrifting. It's safe to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed myself.<br />
<br />
My mom, step-dad, and sister spent Christmas here at my apartment and we made a huge feast of turkey, ham, and all the sides. I don't know why, but I don't like to eat leftovers the same way I ate them the first time, so I've been looking up different recipes to try.<br />
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The first recipe I tested was this <a href="http://www.cookingwithkarin.com/2012/02/leftover-mashed-potato-soup.html" target="_blank">potato soup</a> from <a href="http://www.cookingwithkarin.com/" target="_blank">Cooking with Karin</a> using leftover mashed potatoes. It was awesome! It tasted just like potato soup should, especially with the crumbled bacon and green onions sprinkled on top. Next time you make mashed potatoes, make extra so you can enjoy this soup afterwards!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here's what you'll need:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis6s7yIT-b-k2Ew9cZWqbtf0w7UBHsu1iTnPhyphenhyphenBkFfHYoHCT_IXtWIWyD9v_Tro5joE84-u8fZVmmpPrZeqO9uRZUfW4dk0-5v_pXQ7jknYlsYUFON20OJXIA7KR3KpqvFzlOuJe0y2Xc/s1600/ingredients.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis6s7yIT-b-k2Ew9cZWqbtf0w7UBHsu1iTnPhyphenhyphenBkFfHYoHCT_IXtWIWyD9v_Tro5joE84-u8fZVmmpPrZeqO9uRZUfW4dk0-5v_pXQ7jknYlsYUFON20OJXIA7KR3KpqvFzlOuJe0y2Xc/s1600/ingredients.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
bacon (however many strips you want!)<br />
1 finely chopped onion<br />
3 tablespoons flour<br />
3 cups chicken stock<br />
2 cups leftover mashed potatoes<br />
1 1/2 cups half and half<br />
salt and pepper, to taste<br />
shredded cheese, for garnish<br />
chopped green onions, for garnish
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Step 1: In a stock pot, cook bacon until crispy. Set aside.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
Step 2: Sauté the onion in the bacon fat until soft. The turkey bacon I had didn't leave any delicious greasy juices, so I just used olive oil. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ0tMNGtS6LhnBntQxFkYVATWvKSh0_WW0V7jYanj4_on_Jid64Fwcm9NdQ6-FdjhbN5NWuDZJfCffsM022xkew6zSI7zTi34wxKPdJ4gYfYqZDaVsYphzFnKetYFef2_-m2TXHNLdjIw/s1600/onions.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ0tMNGtS6LhnBntQxFkYVATWvKSh0_WW0V7jYanj4_on_Jid64Fwcm9NdQ6-FdjhbN5NWuDZJfCffsM022xkew6zSI7zTi34wxKPdJ4gYfYqZDaVsYphzFnKetYFef2_-m2TXHNLdjIw/s1600/onions.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Step 3: Whisk in the flour, chicken stock, half-and-half, and mashed potatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgflSJGb6UB-q4s9v0i30mTsGFJ7oQauKCOggpDgu3SxIsmUkD24b0k3WsNEWQhF983PysZEFDkYUeQoUv7t_ZenMQFlRsi3Fuc2fAbiCMv7SBIfHb0ItZ5UyQIafLDno9UloKwNuK86xw/s1600/IMG_6298.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgflSJGb6UB-q4s9v0i30mTsGFJ7oQauKCOggpDgu3SxIsmUkD24b0k3WsNEWQhF983PysZEFDkYUeQoUv7t_ZenMQFlRsi3Fuc2fAbiCMv7SBIfHb0ItZ5UyQIafLDno9UloKwNuK86xw/s1600/IMG_6298.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Step 4: Serve and garnish with shredded cheese, crumbled bacon, and green onions. Yum!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

That's not really out of the ordinary for me, but I'm making a point here. I read this hilarious <a href="http://www.greetingsfromtx.com/2012/12/merry-merry_26.html">post</a> on <a href="http://www.greetingsfromtx.com/">Greetings from Texas</a> about her family's Christmas celebration that made me want to take more pictures of my own family, pinned this <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/145663369169704144/">outfit</a> because I recently thrifted a floral blazer and wanted ideas on how to wear it, and decided I'm going to make this <a href="http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/09/italian-chicken-soup/">soup</a> with my leftover turkey from Christmas day. Hmm…I sure do get a lot of my inspiration from the internet. In fact, all my so called "ideas" are actually someone else's. I just tweak them a bit. Do you see where I'm going with this?<br />
<div style="min-height: 14px;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
I've been thinking about blogging again, but I didn't want it to be as one-dimensional as <a href="http://theclosetdenatalie.blogspot.com/">The Closet de Natalie</a>. I wanted the freedom to write about everything, but needed a way to focus it. It hit me this morning in the midst of my laziness. I'll write about where I find my inspiration on the internet. This blog will be a collection of my attempts to recreate the outfit ideas, recipes, beauty trends, and DIY projects I stumble upon. Plus, it'll give me an actual reason to keep up with all my favorite blogs. I'm researching!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="min-height: 14px;">
<div>
It'll be tough getting back on a regular blogging schedule, but I have a lot of ideas for posts already. I hope you're looking forward to reading them. I'm excited to be back!</div>
