I Miss This

There's something missing in my life right now...and I think I know what it is.

THIS.

I miss writing about the latest happenings in my life, blogging about my recent thrifted treasures, and sharing pictures of my drinks meals. Of course, I'm still all over social media, but it's not the same as having a page that's all my own. I even miss the pain-in-the-ass design part of it.

So, we'll see what happens. I might just be feeling nostalgic. Or just have a wild hair, like my mom says.

Thrifted: Classic Slingbacks

I've been on a thrifting high lately. I try to go at least once a week, but I don't always have the time. If I can make it, I try to stop by the Salvation Army on my way home from work on Wednesdays when all clothing is 50% off and shoes are 25% off. I scored two pairs of amazing shoes last week: a pair of real Swedish Hasbeens and these great black patent slingback pumps.

While I'm wearing them, I like to pretend that they're really the Manolo Blahniks below. Wishful thinking, I know. But a girl can dream, right?

The downside to these shoes is that one of the heels rattles a little bit (weird, I know), but I only spent about $10 for them.

Navy Nail Inspiration

I go through phases with my nails. Currently, I'm in the phase where I'm obsessed with painting them a different color every week.

I've had this bottle of navy nail polish for years. I think I bought it back when I was a sophomore in college, which makes it...four years old. Who knew nail polish lasted that long?

My point is that I read this post on one of my favorite blogs, A Cup of Jo, way back in October and I remember thinking that I needed to try it especially because I already have a bottle of navy polish.

Of course, I forgot about it until I was rummaging through my overstuffed bag of nail polish and found this particular bottle. It was definitely a AHA! moment. I'm sure you can guess what happened next.

I painted my nails navy blue, of course.

Polka Dot Passion

polka dot tights from American Apparel, $25

I have a love-hate relationship with these tights. They're really cute and I received so many compliments while I was wearing them BUT they cost $25 and ripped the first time I pulled them on. There's a huge run down the inside of one of the legs! Fortunately, the run ends above my knee, so I can still wear them with longer skirts and dresses. I put a ton of clear nail polish on the run to keep it from getting any bigger, but I'll have to be really careful the next time I wear them.

Here's the reason I decided to buy these tights...

Isn't this outfit adorable? Jen writes one of my favorite blogs, Her Waise Choice, and is always wearing the perfect combination of classic and quirky. I definitely recommend checking out her blog for some serious outfit inspiration.

Yummy Curry Turkey Salad

I had so much turkey leftover from Christmas! I made two batches of this chicken salad AND a whole tray of enchiladas verdes AND a giant pot of Italian soup (both of which I didn't take pictures of...sorry!) I'm seriously considering buying a turkey on a monthly basis. There's so much meat to use and you can freeze it for later!

OK, back to the salad.

Here's what you'll need:

I'm the worst at measuring ingredients. I usually just start with a little of each (keeping in mind the strength of certain ingredients) and taste before adding more of anything.

For those of you who like to follow recipes to a tee, here are my recommended measurements based off a recipe from one of my favorite food blogs.

1 small diced apple
1 chopped celery stick
2 tbsp. chopped chives
2 tbsp. chopped cilantro
1/4 tsp. minced fresh ginger*
1 tbsp. honey
1/2 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
1/2 tbsp. curry powder
2 cups cooked & chopped turkey
1/4 cup chopped pecans
salt and pepper, to taste

*I keep a hunk of ginger in my freezer. It thaws quickly and I like it better than ground ginger.

The only step is to mix everything together in a bowl. It's easiest to first mix the wet ingredients (yogurt and honey) and then add everything else. It tastes great on toasted bread, in a wrap, or even on a salad. I probably should have taken a picture of the final result, but Matt and I ate it all before I remembered.

It was that good.

Leopard + Red

Sweater: thrifted, $4
Leggings: American Apparel, $46
Coat: vintage from Cream Vintage in Austin, $15
Purse: Forever 21, $30
Flats: Banana Republic, $49 (with employee discount)

This outfit was inspired by this great leopard look I saw on Jessica from What I Wore a few weeks ago. Doesn't she look sophisticated and classy? Something about gloves always makes an outfit more ladylike, it seems.

I didn't go all out with red pants and shoes, but I liked my version nonetheless. It was perfect for running errands with Matt. He could see me from a mile away in this outfit.
